Canterbury Rug

$50 – $3,410

The Canterbury rug is a technically complex design achieved with 12 harmonious colours in a geometric progression. Chromatically subtle, in pinks, blues, ochres and olive, with a tonal range from black to ecru. The orthogonal linearity, narrow or broad, and regular or varying, makes for visual depth and interest.

To realise this design, our artisan weavers have achieved an ambitious feat, pushing the boundaries of the craft. Each rug is handwoven by highly skilled practitioners on two warp beams that interlace the wool yarns. It is a warp-faced format, more typically used for simple stripes in just a few colours – the Canterbury design takes this simple principle and expands its potential.

A returnable rug sample (40cm x 80cm) is available for this design.

The Canterbury rug is available to view in our Whitstable showroom. We welcome visitors 10am - 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Craftsmanship: Hand Loom
Pile Composition: 100% Wool

Hand Loom – Specific to orthogonal designs, warp-faced hand loom rugs are traditionally woven on a horizontal loom. During the making process – a technique similar to that of velvet – makers insert rods into the warp, determining the depth of the pile height, which is then cut;  the resultant rug is dense and sumptuous.

Materials - Indian Chokla Wool – natural, durable, versatile, sustainable.

Care: Dry Clean Recommended

Underlay + Rug care

An underlay provides cushioning that increases the longevity of a rug; we advise customers to use a good quality anti-slip underlay, for this reason, and to prevent a rug from creasing and slipping, whether on a carpet or a hard floor. Underlay also protects the floor covering beneath from transference of colours or fibres from the back of the rug.
