Art into Industry

Margo Selby is a British artist and designer of woven textiles. Her work is characterised by its geometric colour construction and sits at the intersection of art, craft and design. Alongside her handwoven art practice, Margo oversees the work of the Margo Selby Studio designing for industry partners and the production of a wide range of textile applications.

Colour is the impetus of Margo’s work – the effects of colours in combination – the relationship between colour and woven thread – and the impact of colour in a design. In 2021 Margo was awarded the prestigious Turner Medal of the Colour Group (GB) for ‘Britain’s Greatest Colourist’.

Margo takes inspiration from graphic design, typography, hand-crafted textiles and architecture.

Although Margo’s approach is experimental, weaving is an extremely methodical practice. There is a close affinity between weaving, graphic design and architecture, in that they are all precision disciplines.

Our product range includes: handwoven rugs; industrially woven fabrics for upholstery, soft furnishings and apparel; cushions; towels and scarves.

The studio as a whole combines many years of design experience and technical expertise. We strive to constantly interrogate our working practices in terms of ethics, and work towards environmental sustainability.

The Vexillum art series was the inspiration for the Margo Selby x Christopher Farr rug collaboration.
