The Ackroyd Blanket
A celebration of British wool and British making.

Named after a close family friend of Margo's, the name of the ‘Ackroyd’ blanket is derived from the families historic connection to British wool.

“When I shared with the Ackroyd family that I’d been trying to work more with British wool I was thrilled to hear that their ancestors once ran The Wool Board, which went on to become ‘British Wool’ who champion British wool in all its forms. This gave me the incentive to name the blanket after the ‘Ackroyd family’ - a name synonymous with wool."

– Margo Selby

The design supports local sheep farmers and celebrates the full spectrum of colour that British wool can take. Drawing on the tradition of Welsh blanket weaving with a nod to Fair Isle pattern-making, it is soft, bold and graphic, rooted in country living with a pop of neon.

Wool was chosen for its natural softness, sustainability and durability. October marks Wool Month, which celebrates this natural fibre and the industry behind it.

'It feels really good to be working with British Wool and supporting the farmers, spinners and dyers who have worked so hard to create these locally sourced yarns.'

— Margo Selby

The Lancashire mill brought an unparalleled depth of knowledge to this project. Traditional weaving techniques, honed across generations, ensure every Ackroyd Blanket is woven to the highest standard. British design, British wool, British mills.

Coincidentally this design is also a fitting tribute to Peter Ackroyd MBE, Chairman of the Campaign for Wool, who died in July 2026 after more than five decades championing wool and British textile manufacturing. His appointment as Chairman in January 2025 reflected more than fifty years of dedicated service to the wool and textile industry and a lifelong commitment to promoting wool as one of the world's finest natural fibres.

Ackroyd joins our British wool collection alongside the Field Blanket. See the full range and our weaving studio in person at our showroom in Whitstable.

Open Monday – Friday, 10am – 4pm.
