Venetian Collection

This new collection of rugs is inspired by Margo's research into Venetian cut glass at the Victoria & Albert Museum archive.

The palette echoes the shifting tones created by light moving across cut glass facets – subtle variations that give each rug its depth and character.

The colours for this rug series came from our Living Colour Chart. Our Living Colour Chart asks people to submit a colour along with the story of why it is meaningful to them.

GREEN
In our Living Colour Chart we found that greens often reflect people's love of nature and the outdoors.

ORANGE
We found through our Living Colour Chart, these colours instill feelings of confidence, whilst also being warm and comforting.

YELLOW
We found that yellows and golds evoke feelings of positivity and nostalgia, they are colours that are up-lifting.

BLUE
We recognised that blue evokes feelings of freedom and openness, reflecting the depth of the ocean and expanse of the sky.

Each rug is individually made by skilled artisans using hand-tufting techniques in hand-dyed wool.

The materials that go into weaving a Margo Selby rug are as important as the design and workmanship. Colour, texture, tactile feel and function are all factors we consider for each individual rug.

Our hand tufted rugs feature a luxurious pile, with tightly packed yarn. These rugs are individually handmade on upright frames using a very precise technique of inserting and looping yarn tufts through a canvas backing, with handheld tools.

Features of this method are the density of pile and crispness of line, with optional varied pile heights hand-carved to create a 3-dimensional effect.
