Matrix Series — Collection Introduction
The Matrix series will premiere at the British Art Fair 2026, at Saatchi Gallery. Each artwork works within a defined grid formation, using the boundary of the loom not as a restriction but as an opportunity for exploration in colour and form.
Built on a modular structure that reflects the binary logic of the loom: the warp and weft are lifted and lowered to turn the precisely arranged coloured threads on and off within the grid.
Over the past few years, Margo Selby has been scaling up her work, drawn to the physical impact of colour experienced at close range on the loom.
Her motivation was to carry that intensity outward, into larger, more immersive compositions. After this period of monumental work, her attention has turned in the opposite direction: down to a smaller, more defined grid with which to explore abstract colour and form.
The works are made to be seen together. Placed in sequence or in clusters, individual pieces combine to create new compositions, the grid a constant and the relationships between colour and form always shifting.
The Matrix series presents a rare opportunity to buy a small piece of Margo Selby hand woven art.
