Renowned British textile designer and artist Margo Selby has joined forces with Christopher Farr to produce the Vexillum rug, the design directly related to her artworks, as presented at COLLECT international fair for contemporary craft and design. A collectible piece, the rug is made in pure wool using a traditional hand knotting technique.
A rug such as Vexillum, for Christopher Farr, is at the intersection of Margo Selby’s practice and the embodiment of her tenet: Art-Into-Industry. Vexillum exemplifies the twin considerations of form and function – an objet d’art installed on a wall in a gallery setting, or a sumptuous floor covering transforming a domestic space.
“I use thread to create abstract geometric artworks that explore repetition and transition, symmetry and asymmetry, the dynamic and the stable. Colour is a driving force behind my work; I enjoy the infinite effects of many subtle hues and tones that can be explored when blending from one colour to another.”
Margo Selby
For over 30 years, Christopher Farr have set out to unite heritage textile craftsmanship with contemporary design vision. They continue to protect and preserve the world’s weaving traditions, while pushing at the creative possibilities of design. Alongside Christopher’s own work, the company collaborates with a considered roster of international artists, architects, fashion designers and other visionaries to produce a selection of designs that remains unrivalled in its creative scope.
Vexillum: Made-to-order by Christopher Farr
Lead Time: Christopher Farr to confirm
Size: 2.5 m x 2.5 m
Due to the handmade nature of this product there is some variation in size from piece to piece.
Composition: 100% handspun wool.
Cleaning: For day-to-day cleaning, a light vacuuming will do an excellent job of removing surface dirt. Please consult a professional cleaner to remove any stains. Your new rug will naturally shed loose fluff and fine fibres for the first few months of its life. This is quite normal and is not to be considered a fault. Regular vacuuming will gradually remove this excess fluff. The rug edges should be vacuumed gently as the pile is more exposed to wear and tear, especially if your machine is an upright model that uses a rotary brush head. We strongly advise you lift the vacuum cleaner onto the rug rather than run over the edges repeatedly to avoid damaging the pile.
