Sorbet Hand-Knotted Rug – Made To Order

Sorbet hand-knotted rug in wool & silk yarns. Hand knotting is a time-intensive technique that creates very fine lines and motifs. We produce our designs in wool, or wool and silk mix. Different and defined motifs are hand-carved at varying heights to create an enriched 3-dimensional effect.  Our hand-knotted rugs are made in Nepal and India using traditional techniques, and we work closely and directly with the communities of weavers, tufters, and knotters, in longstanding partnerships. We are proud to engage these traditional industries and unite Margo’s unique designs with their craftsmanship. Made to order: lead time 18-22 weeks. UNDERLAY: We advise customers to use a good quality anti-slip underlay. Click HERE to purchase underlay in the required size. The studio welcomes rug commissions. We work with private individuals on domestic projects, and with interior designers, architects and institutions. Click HERE to learn more about the commissioning process and to get in touch with our design team.

Small: 1.2 x 1.8m

Large: 1.7 x 2.4m

Extra Large: 2 x 3m

Composition: Wool or Wool & Silk

Underlay: We advise customers to use a good quality anti-slip underlay to prevent your rug from creasing and slipping on the floor whether it is placed on a carpet or a hard surface and to increase the longevity of the rug by cushioning it. Underlay should be used to avoid transference of dark colours or fibres from the back of the rug onto light coloured flooring or carpet underneath.

Stain Proofing: Stain proofing helps protect your rug from dirt and spillages. Within the UK we recommend Safe Clean. You can type in your postcode to find you local specialist and they will make an appointment to spray your rug at your location. Please view the website: www.safeclean.co.uk

Cleaning: For day-to-day cleaning, a light vacuuming will do an excellent job of removing surface dirt. Please consult a professional cleaner to remove any stains. Your new rug will naturally shed loose fluff and fine fibres for the first few months of its life. This is quite normal and is not to be considered a fault. Regular vacuuming will gradually remove this excess fluff. The rug edges should be vacuumed gently as the pile is more exposed to wear and tear, especially if your machine is an upright model that uses a rotary brush head. We strongly advise you lift the vacuum cleaner onto the rug rather than run over the edges repeatedly to avoid damaging the pile.

Vexillum Hand-knotted Rug – Made To Order

Renowned British textile designer and artist Margo Selby has joined forces with Christopher Farr to produce the Vexillum rug, the design directly related to her artworks, as presented at COLLECT international fair for contemporary craft and design. A collectible piece, the rug is made in pure wool using a traditional hand knotting technique. A rug such as Vexillum, for Christopher Farr, is at the intersection of Margo Selby’s practice and the embodiment of her tenet: Art-Into-Industry. Vexillum exemplifies the twin considerations of form and function – an objet d’art installed on a wall in a gallery setting, or a sumptuous floor covering transforming a domestic space. “I use thread to create abstract geometric artworks that explore repetition and transition, symmetry and asymmetry, the dynamic and the stable.  Colour is a driving force behind my work; I enjoy the infinite effects of many subtle hues and tones that can be explored when blending from one colour to another." Margo Selby For over 30 years, Christopher Farr have set out to unite heritage textile craftsmanship with contemporary design vision. They continue to protect and preserve the world’s weaving traditions, while pushing at the creative possibilities of design. Alongside Christopher’s own work, the company collaborates with a considered roster of international artists, architects, fashion designers and other visionaries to produce a selection of designs that remains unrivalled in its creative scope.
