Margo Selby is an artist working with colour and geometric form. Her handwoven artworks are made on dobby looms, and commissioned, exhibited and collected worldwide.

Margo’s works are painterly, regarding the optical mixing of pure colour – and sculptural, in that they are constructed. The colour becomes integral to the piece, as the threads are assembled in layers; colour and structure unite. 

Margo takes inspiration from visual culture: typography; hand-crafted textiles; and architecture – and connects to the modernist tradition of constructivist art.

The Sun and The Moon: Art Inspired by the Celestial

Occupying two floors of the Gallery and spanning nine major exhibition spaces, the show presents artworks, installations and objects that reveal how artists have responded to the Sun and the Moon.

The 'moon landing' installation is at the centre of the second part of the exhibition, Walking on the Moon, which focuses on the cultural impact of the Apollo missions and the lesser-known stories behind space exploration.

Canterbury Cathedral presents moon landing

Canterbury Cathedral presents moon landing, a duo work consisting of an original score by Composer, Helen Caddick and a large, immersive textile installation by Artist, Margo Selby. It is a celebration of the technical possibilities of weaving and the crossovers of mathematics, colour and rhythm found in both music and textiles.

The National Festival of Making | Breathing Colour

Margo Selby is one of four artists announced as artists-in-residence for the 2024 Art in Manufacturing, the headline commissioning program of the National Festival of Making and British Textile Biennial.

The initiative pairs artists with industry-leading manufacturers in Lancashire, in Margo’s case, fabric printing company, Standfast & Barracks in Lancaster.

Crafts Council's International Art Fair for Modern Craft + Design

Represented by Cynthia Corbett Gallery, Margo Selby retured to Collect Art Fair, with moon landing; her first site-specific installation, created in collaboration with composer Helen Caddick.

moon landing is an immersive artwork comprising a hand woven textile, 16 meters in length by Margo Selby, and a composed musical piece scored for strings by Helen Caddick.

For Collect 2024, the textile art was suspended within the 5-story void of Somerset House's Stamp Stairwell, viewable in-the-round as you ascend and descend the winding stairs.
