Weaving Workshop | Margo Selby Studio | 17th – 21st April 2023
17th – 21st April 2023
Margo Selby Studio is pleased to announce the following extended 5-day version of our Creative Weaving workshop at our Whitstable studio from 17th-21st April 2023. The workshop is suitable for all levels from complete beginners through to advanced weavers who may want to look at their work with a fresh approach or learn a new technique
5-Day Creative Weaving Workshop:
This in-depth weaving workshop is designed to build confidence and freedom when working on a hand-loom, and our studio looms are set up in a variety of ways in preparation for this workshop, providing students with a great chance to experiment with different techniques and ideas. At the end of the workshop, students will leave with a selection of hand-woven samples which reflect a range of different techniques and materials. At the halfway point of the event, Margo will lead a colour theory workshop, encouraging each weaver to develop a unique yarn winding wheel/block exploring how colours interact and blend, informing warp and weft yarn selection.
More experienced students wanting to explore a specific technique are welcome to bring their own tabletop loom set-up and ready to weave – please contact the studio in advance for guidance.
Once booked, our studio staff will contact you to discuss your weaving level and requirements. We are happy to provide advice prior to the workshop to ensure you get the most out of the experience. We have looms at the studio for students to use, but if you wish to bring your own table loom, or if you wish to purchase a table loom through us, please let us know by 6 weeks prior to the course.
If required, we can provide travel and accommodation information. Our Studio is located minutes from Whitstable beach on the Kent coast.
These workshops will take place in our Whitstable studio. Refreshments are provided throughout the day, but students will need to organise their own lunch, accommodation and travel. For students not in Whitstable our studio is only a 15-20 minute walk from the train station and we are happy to recommend places to stay and eat locally.
The course is suitable for adults (aged 16 and upwards).
Materials and tools are provided but students are also welcome to bring their own (all are optional):
A sketchbook, photographs or any other sources of inspiration that they might like to use.
A selection of yarn
Scissors, pens, notebook, and squared paper.
