2-Day Yarn Winding Workshop | Margo Selby Studio

This workshop offers an opportunity to explore colour, mindful making and textile craft in a hands-on environment. Participants will explore the interaction of colour through the creation of yarn windings.
Yarn windings are created by the action of wrapping coloured threads around a piece of card or wood and are often used by weavers to consider the juxtaposition of colour. As well as being a tool for design, yarn windings can become beautiful miniature artworks in themselves. Under Margo’s guidance, participants will create one or more windings which explore ideas relating to stripe, proportion, as well as colour theory.
Suitable for all abilities - no previous experience of weaving or colour winding is necessary.

Day One
Margo will give a talk about her approach to colour theory, exploring how colours interact and blend, and how yarn windings have informed her textile design and art practice.
Participants will have an extensive library of yarns to experiment with, and create their own colour stories.
Day Two
Margo and our studio weavers will instruct on how to plan and execute a block winding. Drawing inspiration from studio samples, blocks will be provided in various forms for participants to create their own unique objet d'art, which they will be able to take home.
- All materials are provided, and by the end of the workshop, participants will have created a beautiful yarn winding block.
- Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided; participants are advised to pack a light lunch.

Once booked, our studio team will contact you with workshop logistics.
Please note that our workshops are for adults aged 16 and over.
Materials & Equipment:
All supplies are provided, we have an extensive array of yarns in varied colours, materials, and textures available.
Travel & Accommodation:
Attendees are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and travel. Our studio is a 25-minute walk or 5-minute drive from central Whitstable. For those travelling to Whitstable, we have prepared a Guide to Whitstable with accommodation, restaurants, and local recommendations to help plan your stay.
During the Workshop:
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided; participants are advised to pack a light lunch.
The workshop is located on the first floor of the studio and is accessed via a flight of stairs.
Please also let us know of any additional needs, and we will do our best to adapt the workshop to your requirements.
Important Information for International Attendees:
We strongly recommend that international participants take out comprehensive travel insurance to cover any unforeseen disruptions to their trip. Please note that we are unable to refund or reimburse any costs incurred within six weeks of the workshop start date due to travel changes, cancellations or other unforeseen circumstances.
Cancellation Policy:
If you need to cancel your booking, please notify us by email as soon as possible.
- Cancellations made more than six weeks before the course start date will receive a full refund
- Cancellations made within six weeks of the course start date will receive a 50% refund
- Cancellations made within two weeks of the course start date are non-refundable
All refunds are made at the discretion of the Studio Manager.

Returns
In-stock items may be returned by customers for a full refund within 14 days of receiving your order.
