Continuing her long-standing design partnership with British flooring specialist Alternative Flooring, Margo has designed three new bold, dynamic designs that bring a contemporary twist to classic stripes, in jewel-toned colourways.

The new range, aptly named Carnival, is available as a wall-to-wall carpet or as a rug or runner through the Alternative Flooring 'Make Me A Rug' service

Margo’s approach was to create a collection that feels both vibrant and harmonious, bringing an inviting atmosphere into any home. By layering tones and experimenting with saturation levels. She developed a palette that works beautifully across different lighting conditions and room settings. The end result is a dynamic yet timeless selection of colours that enhance the natural textures of the carpet.

Margo’s Q&A with the Alternative Flooring team:

How do you approach the design process, especially when it comes to colour?
I spend lots of time winding colour threads around cards to see how the colours interact in their material form. This hands-on approach allows me to observe how different shades complement or contrast with one another. It’s a process of refinement, where I assess how the colours shift in relation to each other and how they will translate into woven patterns. Every combination is chosen to evoke a particular mood or spatial effect, ensuring versatility and depth in the final designs.

What do you enjoy most about working with and designing carpets?

Carpets have the unique ability to transform a space from the ground up, acting as a foundation for the rest of the design scheme. Designing carpets allows me to play with scale, proportion, and repetition in ways that differ from other textiles. The tactile nature of carpets also adds another dimension, creating warmth and comfort while enhancing the visual appeal of a room.
